The area between (Approximate 5.88 Sq. Km) east bank of the Mudoijan river to Jogduar Laopati pool about 5 (five) Km in length by the both side of National Highway No. 37 and centring round the Teok Govt. Bus stand which was installed during 1950 on the bank of the Teok river and situated at a distance of 22 Km east of Jorhat city has been termed as Teok Town by the Govt. of Assam in the year 20th December 2005. The total population of the town is about 8, 795 (as per census 2011).
There are many definitions why this place was named as Teok and the word Teok belong to the Tai language and different views are extended by enlighten section of the locality. According to late Shitya Sharjya and the poet of Rhythm Binanda Chandra Boruah the word Teok means a place where ghee is plenty.
